How to Install Apache on Ubuntu

Apache HTTP Server, commonly referred to as just Apache, is a web server. It is the “A” in the “LAMP” acronym, which stands for Linux (you have that, it’s your Ubuntu VPS where you’ll install Apache!), Apache, MySQL and PHP (or, Perl, or, Python?)

Installing Apache with apt-get is simple. SSH to your Pod as root, and run these commands:

root@mypod:~# sudo apt-get update
root@mypod:~# sudo apt-get install apache2

You can test that this worked by opening a web browser, and going to http://youripaddress/ which should show you a screen that says “It works!”

If you don’t know your ip address, running this command from the command line will show it to you.

ifconfig eth0 | grep inet | awk '{ print $2 }'
